Runway
UK was established in Surrey, England on January 9th 1988.
Runway's early beginnings were a rock musical instrument shop
called Runway Music, selling guitars, keyboards, drums and other
Rock Music equipment. The name Runway chosen due to the
close proximity to Gatwick Airport.
In the mid 90's came the bedroom DJ boom and a change of name to
Runway Sound & Light, as the main core business evolved into
selling DJ equipment for home and live use.
In parallel to this, Runway continued to build up a large
inventory of hire equipment. 'Dry Hire' (collection from
us) became a major part of our business, supplying bands and
DJ's, with sound systems, DJ rigs and a comprehensive range of
lighting equipment.
At this time we also supplied major sound rigs and trussed
lighting rigs for a number of UK tours together with full crew
plus large Cerwin Vega sound systems for nightclubs and
'raves'.
We also continued to supply outdoor horn
public address systems plus
Motorola handheld 2-way radios for a wide variety of small and
large scale events.
This diversification lead to Runway adopting the revised name,
Runway UK.
In 2000 Runway formed its video production division, Pinewood
Video,
providing high definition video production including broadcast
quality programs, documentaries, training films, music videos
& live performance videos.
In 2001 Runway's Audio Visual department was also formed,
covering all areas of Corporate presentations, with
onsite Technicians available to ensure a professional service to
clients small and large.
2007 saw Runway
shift its main core business with the formation of Wild Distribution,
specialising in sales and distribution of microphone related products.
2009
presented the launch of the RoXdon brand of microphones and accessories,
solely owned by Runway UK, the RoXdon company based in London, England, produce High End,
Professional Quality Microphones used in Recording and Broadcast
Studios, with final assembly, quality control and audio test procedures
carried out at our Streatham based workshop.
In March 2010 Wild Distribution relocated to a new warehouse near East
Grinstead. Wild Distribution currently distribute the following
brands: CAD Audio, Astatic, Superlux, Heil Sound, iSK, RoXdon, LeWilson,
and Azden.
In
January 2011, Runway UK appoints micsdirect, the UK's
largest microphone dealer, as their preferred supplier. Established in June 2006, micsdirect has
grown to become one of Europe's leading online supplier of
professional microphones and mic related equipment.
